Ergonomics II

Ergonomics means laws of work, it is also the science of adapting the job and/or the equipment and the human to each other for optimal safety and productivity.

The five aspects of ergonomics are

1. Safety

2. Comfort

3. Ease of use

4. Productivity/performance

5. Aesthetics

The products

comfort:

the comfort shoes.

the comfort shoes are designed to provide comfort and cushioning for those who are on their feet all day, or are designed to relieve various kinds of foot pain.

safety:

handrails or grab bars in toilets.

the handrails or grab bars are designed to give support or balance.

ease of use:

samsung's jitterbug

they have large buttons and simple screens with large fonts are deigned to help the poor visioned elderly.

performance

TV.ears.TV

It actually turns itself of when the elderlies fall asleep during a nap, while the remote has big buttons.

Ergonomics (Product description and Idea Trigger)

It is a ice-cream scooper that has a greenish colour and a metal thing that cuts the ice-cream away from the spoon.

It is supposed to be easy to use because most ice-creams stick to the spoon when it is being scooped up.

Yes, as the spring's tension is quite high so the elderly would have to use a lot of strength to push the trigger.

I thing we should reduce the tension of the spring and increase the length of the trigger.

Ergonomics I

Q.1 The work space of the first person is very stuffy, and the guy has to shift uncomfortably. Also, when he wants to lean back, he broke the chair he was sitting on. The lighting of his workspace was also bad as when he wants to shift a lamp, it is too hot and the other lamp is affecting the brightness of his screen. The guy also has neck aches from looking too much at the laptop screen.
The second person's workspace is spacious and his chair is also very comfortable. he can shift his body posture with ease and the hand support can also be shifted easily. His screen can also be shifted. He also have a laptop holder that he can use to look at the screen comfortably. The lamp he is using will not heat up easily, so he can shift it without burning his hands.

Q.2 The workspace that the second guy is working in is more preferred as it has a comfortable chair, spacious tables, adjustable lights that will not heat up easily, and a laptop holder that increases the height of the screen, with adjustable armrests that allow him to work comfortably.

Q.3 We need to look at his criteria and his "comfort level" to suit his needs, for example, the price, the type of armrests, and other factors affecting the person both physiologically, and physically.

Q.4 Because ergonomics affect the quality of their work and also their eagerness and stamina/strength to work.

Personal Reflection (8th Mar 2010)

i)
1)I learnt about ideas different groups are thinking, for example the chutes.....
2)I learnt that through surveys, we can get different ideas and plan our next step.
3)I learnt the ways to resolve problems through practical and creative ideas and we must not stick to our country, I also found out how lazy singaporeans are.
ii)
1)Is this effective for the current situation
2)Is the design feasible?
iii)
1)We can use multiple chutes instead of one whole chute to deposit our rubbish.
